State of the Science Conference on Postsecondary Education and Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities
A one day conference that focused on postsecondary education for students with intellectual disabilities was held in November 2009 in an effort shape federal efforts to improve access to postsecondary education as envisioned by Congress and made law as the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008. A family guide that has information about healthy eating, recipes, and activities. For families with young children of all abilities
This guide provides families with information about healthy eating and active lifestyles. It is our hope that families will use this knowledge to help them buy fresh food, prepare nutritious meals, and have fun being active. We encourage families to include their children while they shop for food, prepare meals, and cook. Children who participate in cooking enjoy eating and make healthier food choices. Autism Safety Project
Autism Speaks started the Autism Safety Project which provides first responders with information and guidelines for communicating with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in emergency situations. One-page fact sheets can be emailed or printed for distribution to law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical services, and others.

DC Car Seat and Installation Workshops
Project Safe Child and the Safe Cribs Program sponsored by the The DC Police Department and the DC Department of Transportation are holding workshops on car seat installation every Tuesday from 10am- 3pm at Healthy Babies/Developing Families 801 17th St., NE.

Service Learning
Service learning is becoming a common method to teach students citizenship, volunteerism, responsibility, and job skills. Often children with disabilities are overlooked for participation in this important teaching method. Integrating Service Learning in Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for Primary and Secondary Students with Disabilities
The Corporation for National Community Service and the National Service Inclusion Project have created a resource about including service learning in students' individual education programs (IEP) to improve learning and transition goals. Serve DC
Serve DC is the Mayor's Office on Volunteerism in the District of Columbia. The office has an initiative to increase involvement of individuals a with disabilities in volunteer efforts. The Office has a Disability Inclusion Committee.
