The Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development
held our annual one day conference. We invite service coordinators,
rehabilitation counselors, educators, providers and others
who have or work with individuals who have intellectual or
developmental disabilities to join us for new and innovative
ideas and resources find meaningful employment for
people with significant employment challenges. There will
be tracks on Transition, Customized Employment,
and Policy and Resources. Many national
and local experts in this field will present new and exciting
ideas and programs, and provide examples
of how other states and localities move from training

National 4 H Youth Conference Center in Chevy Chase, MD.
The Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development
held our annual one
day conference.This year we were honored to feature,
Philippa Campbell, PhD, OTR/L, as our keynote speaker.
Dr. Campbell is a pioneer in the field of early intervention.
She is the Director of the Child & Family Studies Research
Programs and the Research Institute for Assistive Technology
for Infants and Toddlers at Thomas Jefferson University.
She is also the director of a federally funded training
program for OTs and PTs in the area of early intervention.
Since 1992 she has been the Director of Early Intervention
Training: the Philadelphia Teaching and Learning Cooperative.

Georgetown University 2nd Annual Conference
on Employment of People with Disabilities
The Georgetown University Conference on Employment of People
with Disabilities
Georgetown University is proud to recognize the many strides
of the past two decades in achieving greater freedom and
independence for millions of people with disabilities, and
to look ahead to an even brighter future for the disabilities
movement. During October, National Disability Employment
Awareness Month, Georgetown hosted the Annual Georgetown
University Conference on Employment of People with Disabilities
examining the challenges and opportunities in the area of
employment of people with disabilities. As part of the conference,
two panels of experts in the areas of public policy, business,
federal contracting, and technology examined the history
and future of disability employment.
This year we were proud to present the 2011 Human Spirit
Award to the Honorable Bob Dole for his unwavering support
of people with disabilities and his leadership enacting the
1973 Rehabilitation Act, the 1975 Developmental Disabilities
Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, the 1975 Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act, the 1986 Protection and Advocacy
for the Mentally Ill Act, the 1986 Air Carriers Access Act,
the 1986 Education of the Deaf Act, the 1988 Technology Assistance
Act, the 1990 Television Decoder Circuitry Act, and the Americans
with Disabilities Act in 1990.
This Conference could not be done without our partners: The

Athletic Equity Symposium
This symposium was the annual event for our UCEDD
this year. It was an exciting event that brought together
diverse academic, administrative, organization, and education
experts with advocates and athletes with disabilities
to discuss policy issues and changes that can be made at
the national, state and local levels to ensure full participation
of children, youth and young adults in sports and physical
activity. The discussions were lively and a strategic plan
was created to accomplishing the goal of full participation
in sports and physical activity. Click

Providing Quality Health Care for Individuals with Intellectual & Other
Developmental Disabilities
Our Annual Conference was held this year is about
the latest information
about providing better health care access and services
for individuals with intellectual and other disabilties.This
includes discussion on disparities in access and services,
local initiatives to decrease disparities and health promotion
plans for individuals with disabilities. |

Faith & Friends
People with intellectual disabilities of all denominations are invited each Sunday12noon-1pm
to the First Trinity Lutheran Church for hymns and Gospel message that is
hosted by Lifeline Partnership. All are invited to attend the 10:30 am Worship
service before.
Details: Upbeat, easy-to-sing hymns & a Gospel message
for people with intellectual disabilities who have a variety of language
levels. We pass a basket for voluntary contributions. A light lunch
of sandwiches is served.
Cost: Basket passed for voluntary contributions.
